About Job Seekers Allowance
Jobseeker’s Allowance is often abbreviated to JSA, is an unemployment benefit that is paid by the UK Government to people who are out of work and are actively seeking a job. The welfare benefit is part of the UK’s social security system as it is intended to cover the living expenses of a claimant while they are out of work. JSA is administered by the UK Department for Work and Pensions and can only be offered to claimants between 18 years and the state pension age.
JSA Freephone Enquiries – 0800 055 6688
Contact Jobcentre Plus UK’s freephone JSA helpline 0800 055 6688 to make a new Job Seekers Allowance claim before attending your first Jobseeker’s interview. You should discuss your eligibility for the benefit with the DWP representative as you can only successfully apply for JSA if you are not currently in full time education or over the state pension age. Furthermore if you wish to claim for income-based JSA then you can ask for a quote for your entitlement before your meeting at the Jobcentre so you can fill out a Jobseeker’s Agreement. If you think that you have been given an undeserved sanction following a missed Jobcentre appointment then you can report the incident or even appeal the decision with the JSA advisor. Furthermore it is essential that callers inform the DWP if they are unable to attend a future Jobseeker’s interview meaning that they will be unable to sign on that week. Callers should also discuss any change of circumstances that may affect their eligibility for the benefit, as they may otherwise have to pay back payments they were not entitled to. Universal Credit began replacing JSA on a UK-wide scale in 2013 meaning that claimants who are concerned about what the change will mean for them and their entitlement should call this helpline.
Call Costs and Opening Hours
The Department for Work and Pension’s JSA helpline uses a 0800 freephone number meaning that all calls will be completely free of charge from both UK mobiles and landline telephones. If you would like to contact a Jobcentre representative then you do so during the working week as DWP helplines are open during the hours of 8am-6pm Monday to Friday.
